Big changes await the Guardians of the Galaxy. James Gunn has said before that the group’s next movie will be the last time they get together, potentially sending some of the team members their own way through the universe. Then there’s Nebula, a character that Karen Gillan wants to play until the end of time. According to Gillan herself, Nebula is sure to undergo some pretty big changes since Thanos is killed forever.
“One of the most interesting things about Nebula to me is her relationship with her father and sister,” the actor said. io9 During the press tour for her upcoming movie Double. “Now that her father, Thanos, has been eliminated, he has been the source of all her torment and abuse. It is really interesting to explore how this character begins to recover and who this character begins to become now that the threat that was always gone looms over her. So I was having a lot of fun with that.”
On that same press tour, Gillan was asked how long she hopes to play the character, and she admitted that she’s still obsessed with the idea of playing a cosmic pirate.
“I love my character so much. I’m obsessed with it. Honestly, I’m totally intrigued.” Gillan said. “I think she’s been so lucky. It’s like the gift that keeps on giving because she started out as this villain, and I’ve had the opportunity to show her point of view and her point of view on things. I think it’s been like six movies, and I think it’s absolutely fantastic. Her whole family dynamic, her upbringing.” And her toxic, narcissistic family system. They’re all things I love to explore.”
