Nintendo Switch online leak apparently confirms Game Boy games are coming

Over the past few months, rumors have suggested that Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will get access to games originally released on the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance. It seems that this rumor has gained more momentum, as Nintendo-developed emulators have been discovered for the system. According to Twitter user @Trashbandatcoot, four files were leaked to 4chan, including a Game Boy emulator codenamed “Hiyoko” and a GBA emulator codenamed “Sloop”. The emulators seem to be created by NERD, which stands for European Nintendo Research and Developmenta team that has dealt with other emulators used in the Switch.

According to Trashbandatcoot, these emulators are “equally functional, albeit with some bugs.” Tweets from the embedded poster can be found below.

At this time, readers should take this with caution, as Nintendo has not provided any official confirmation. However, this appears to be the strongest evidence yet of the addition of Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games to the Nintendo Switch Online. Unfortunately, there is no way to know if it will be included in the basic subscription model, or as part of a more expensive expansion package (although the latter seems more likely). The base subscription tier gives users access to games first released on the NES and SNES, while the expansion pack currently offers games first released on the N64 and Sega Genesis.

The Game Boy and Game Boy Advance have featured a number of beloved games over the years, and the emulators seem to point to the many classics likely to come to the platform. a leaked image Shared by @trashbandatcoot عروض Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3And golden sunAnd Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire, and more. If Nintendo is truly bringing these games to the Nintendo Switch Online, it’s unclear how many games will be available at launch and which ones will be added over time. Hopefully Nintendo will make some kind of official announcement in the coming days, but that’s definitely exciting news, regardless!
