Speaking in a new interview, Rajwan revealed that as the Obi-Wan Kenobi story begins, “[We find him in] A very painful moment, where he lost so much, where he was hiding, that his disciple and brother, Anakin, went to the Dark Side, and he’s been living with that for a decade. We really find him in a place where he’s completely lost, and Ewan was a major part of that conversation.”
In her statement further to SFX MagazineRigwan asserted that the return of Darth Vader from Hayden Christensen to Obi-Wan Kenobi was “always part of that story.”
As she explains, Vader is a critical component “because he and Anakin Skywalker are important characters to Obi-Wan, in the shadow of the events of Revenge Of The Sith. He lives with how things left with Anakin in Mustafar, and is left to die incredibly tragically, because he had no other choice.” He has been living with a great deal of guilt and overthinking during this time.”
These phrases pretty much tick all the boxes for the type of story Star Wars fans overwhelmingly want to see from the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney + series. The whole appeal of this story was to get hold of the deeper moral and mental struggles Obi-Wan went through while hiding in Tatooine as “Ben Kenobi”, watching and waiting for Luke Skywalker to come of age and offer the galaxy new hope.
Yes, seeing Obi-Wan run from Jedi-Hunting Inquisitors – possibly bumping into characters like Cal Kestis – would be great, but Obi-Wan’s true strength will prove that emotional rumination about how the Jedi Master has maintained faith in such dark times. . In this thematic framework, the reunion between Obi-Wan and Vader is more than a major event duel: it will be an emotional shock to Obi-Wan, as much as it will be a test of skills and strengths. As Rajwan says, Obi-Wan lived with guilt for leaving Anakin to his “death” during Revenge of the Sith ten years ago. How will he react when he finds out that Anakin has really become Vader?
For our dollar, that scene would be the series’ emotional dirt. Hopefully, we’ll actually see Vader unveil the Obi-Wan showdown, which leads home to the true horror of Anakin’s Sith transformation.
