Why is CNN+ closed?

CNN+ launched on March 29, 2022, just a few weeks ago. The service is now set to close after the company’s merger with Warner Bros. Discovery.

CNN Worldwide Chairman and CEO Chris Licht explained in a statement to Inside: “As we become Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN will be the strongest part of the WBD broadcasting strategy that envisions news as an important part of a broader, compelling offering alongside sports, entertainment and factual content.

“So we have made the decision to discontinue CNN+ operations and focus our investments on CNN’s core newsgathering operations and on building more CNN Digital.

“This is not a quality decision; we appreciate all the work, ambition, and creativity that went into building CNN+, an organization with incredible talent and compelling programming. But our customers and CNN will get the best of it with a simpler broadcast option.”
