KENTA Wants CM Punk In NJPW And AEW’s Forbidden Door Event

AEW’s Tony Khan revealed his big announcement for Dynamite this week, which was a new event titled The Forbidden Door. Khan announced it alongside NJPW President Takami Ohbari, though Adam Cole then jumped in to shed light on a bit and announce the details himself, and Jay White was in the action as well. Now the stars from both companies will collide and offer some matching dreams, and Kenta wants to get in on the action. In fact, he’s already shot his shot at one of AEW’s biggest stars, CM Punk, as on his Instagram story Kenta said “Give me the best in the world, I’m the best in the galaxy” (via Fightful).

KENTA and CM Punk use GTS as the finalists, and once the event was revealed, a potential showdown has been brought up quite a bit. Now KENTA makes it clear that he wants to fight with Punk, and odds are that that’s exactly what we’ll get when the event finally happens. It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but there’s plenty of time for an appearance or promo to appear on Dynamite and Rampage to get this match into high gear.

“As the world continues to reopen, I’m making sure Forbidden Door follows suit and we can finally give fans the dream events they’ve always imagined,” said Tony Khan, CEO, Managing Director and Chief Creative Officer, AEW. United Center has been home to one of AEW’s biggest events of all time, The First Dance, where CM Punk is back in wrestling after a seven-year hiatus. This summer, AEW and NJPW fans can expect the unexpected during this fantastic summer. Pay Each show is a first of its kind between our two great companies.”

“As we have done for over 50 years, the power of wrestling can energize people by making their dreams come true,” said NJPW President Takami Obari. “Now, it’s a very important task for us, the wrestling industry as a whole. We’re not just opening that door. We’re going to show you NJPW’s original strong style behind the blocked door.”

AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door takes place at the United Center in Chicago on Sunday, June 26, and tickets go on sale May 6 at 11AM ET on AEWTix.com and Ticketmaster.com. No matches have been confirmed yet but we’ll keep you posted.
