The unbearable weight of talent He’s now playing in theaters, and fans of Nicolas Cage are thrilled to see the famous Oscar-winning actor playing himself. The film also stars Pedro Pascal as Javi, a billionaire Nic Cage who hires the actor to attend his birthday party. Recently, ComicBook.com Had the opportunity to chat with writer/director Tom Gormican and co-writer Kevin Eaten who talked about writing the role of Cage and why Pascal was the perfect choice for Jaffe.
“You know, it was fun because we met Pedro and we’ve never really seen him do that kind of person before,” Gormican explained. “And when we met him he was a huge fan of Nicolas Cage, so much so that he was like, ‘I just wanted to meet you guys and talk about the script’ because I love Nick.” And we started seeing this character as Pedro the actor. And we thought we couldn’t do this movie without him. So bringing it up and actually using parts of it to enhance Javi’s character in the movie was like a big part of it.”
“I have to give credit to my wife Elizabeth because we’ve been trying to figure out who we’d pick, she’s just a huge Pedro Pascal fan,” Eten added. “And so it was literally, she was so confused as to why there was a debate. She was like, ‘It’s weird.'” Pedro is clearly the best man for this. Have you guys lost your minds? Like, give her credit.
“And then we were in a place, like the two of us have, the relationship between the two of them kind of directing Nick is Bronson and that’s very stoic, like the rude character and Pedro’s cute demeanor of psychological fan behavior, like making us, like you’ve turned into something very special.”
“I mean, I remember saying to Tom, like, ‘You know that’s going to be, I’d take this as a win if we were to basically go to lunch with Nic Cage and he might break up afterwards,'” Eaten replies when asked if Pascal’s character is basically it. “But if we get there, it will be a big enough win.”
Recently, Pascal had a conversation with propelledand explained why working with Cage helped re-awaken his love for acting.
“There was almost something, I don’t know, about reawakening the things you care about and why I got into it in the first place, because it’s still self-challenging, and it’s quite ready, coming up with new ideas, and, frankly, it’s been an incredible challenge to rise to, But it was mostly really beautiful inspiration and a reminder of why I had this fantasy to start with and then study and then work in. It was because of how it feels and how it deals with acting,” Pascal explained.
