EA Sports is testing cross-play in FIFA 22 “In the near future,” the publisher announced this week. However, this cross test will not be available across every platform the game is on, and it won’t be available in every mode. While this first introduction to cross-play is just a test, people who don’t want to participate in it can easily opt out of the beta if they prefer keeping cross-platform matchmaking restricted to their current platform.
This week, EA Sports said in a post on the FIFA website that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S, PC and Stadia will be able to participate in this test. On top of that limited availability, cross-play is only enabled in Seasons Online and Online Friendly modes. The publisher said it limits testing to these modes to begin with so it can stay on top of any issues that might arise, which is a common route for these types of testing across platforms.
“While we want our players to be able to play with as many friends and others as possible, we have limited testing to these two modes with the aim of reducing the chance of introducing new issues into the game,” EA Sports . said. “We’re confident that the game data and feedback we’re getting from these two modes will help inform you of how to implement cross-play in future titles.”
If you want to participate in the test, EA said to search for a widget in the lower right corner of the list whenever you play FIFA 22. Once there, you will see an option where you can opt in or out of the cross-play test. Just set it to whatever setting you prefer to use and you’ll be in or out. With this same tool, you can also add friends by entering their EA username or by the platform they are playing on so you can join someone who may not be on the same platform you are.
EA has not given an idea of how long this test might take before the cross is fully implemented across different platforms, although we can expect to have more information on that in the future after running this test a bit.
