Behavior Interactive is something of its latest story set in archives mode, and it’s very much about The Observer. This non-playable character is a watchdog of sorts when it comes to archives full of information, and until recently, he was largely relegated to the position of narrator. Recent volumes have changed this by forcing The Observer to interact more directly with The Entity’s powers, and people speculate that this could mean The Observer might end up becoming a killer or survivor soon enough.
ComicBook.com recently spoke to Died in broad daylight Creative Director Dave Richard, and while our conversations have largely revolved around Behavior’s announcement of David King’s confirmation as an LGBT+ character and future plans for more diverse chapters, they naturally turned to other parts of the archives due to how David’s last story came to be. We pointed out that people have a lot of theories about The Observer and whether this new character can be played soon – you can check out any number of these at game forums or other Sites like Reddit – He asked Richard what he thought of these kinds of theories.
“So, I’ll answer that there are some minor characters, and non-playable characters, right? DbD’s “The science, there’s Benedict, has been there since he was released,” Richard said. “Vigo, some of the other characters that appear in the Legacy. The Watcher of course. And players always bet. They always bet that one of these characters will turn out to be a survivor or a killer. So, of course, that’s something we’ve taken into consideration because we know players are going to love seeing that. Will that happen with The Observer? Of course, as I said, I can’t say.”
It can’t be said if The Observer or any of these minor characters are actually survivors or assassins, of course, that can’t be said yet, but Richard said the team is “really excited” about the event currently unfolding within the archives. He said that this arc represents a new chapter in the narrative – although it is a chapter in a figurative sense, not a literal “chapter” in the way Died in the light of day DLCs are packaged.
“Really excited about this event. We’re purposefully rocking the archive and this volume and what’s going on with The Observer will make the universe move forward. So, it’s going to reveal facts about our universe. And I’m going to say a new chapter – although chapters are something else in our game – but it’s a new chapter.” In the narrative. It reveals something new. So go into that chapter and read the Observer part and some of the new characters appearing in the archive. It’s definitely going to be really interesting.”
Died in the light of day The big anniversary event is soon approaching, so maybe we’ll learn more about Behavior’s plans for The Observer during that celebration.
