SVU checks out Showrunner for the second time

Law & Order: SVU will have a new person at the helm of season 24, with season 22 and 23 showrunner Warren Leight now leaving the series. Light announced on Twitter, revealing that he wrapped up filming on season 23 of SVU and decided to walk away and take a break. He loved working on the show and with the amazing cast, and also thanked fans for all their support and even occasional resentments throughout his franchise. No season 24 showrunner names have been revealed at this time, but you can find Leight’s full post below.

Light wrote: “The last day of filming is always bittersweet. Today was a little over that. As some of you have already found out, I’m going to quit at the end of #SVU23. The last two years of showing during the pandemic have been hard, and I decided to take a break. It’s a privilege to work On #SVU, writing for Mariska, FINALLEVEL, KelliGiddish, @PeterScanavino, octaviopisano and all the former regulars and guest stars who come to the stage. It is a pleasure to write with everyone @SVUWritersRoom, I am especially grateful to JulieMartinNY.

and our featured writer/producers ItsAlwaysBreezy, svubrendan and Bryan Goluboff. Speaking of producers, @Orsonb63, ciliento and Ken Brown are the best in the business. Norberto somehow directed 5 episodes this season, while sponsoring 7 new directors to SVU through their footage. At least once a week this year, a brick came out the window. This person has been quarantined, this location is lost, another show is delayed and our guest star is no longer available. Every time the camera, styling, wardrobe, locations, h/mu, props are sent in, the drivers come with a save.

And when they didn’t, so did our editing room, led by the indefatigable genius, Arthur Forney. In a way, the obstacles brought us closer together. Episodes stayed on track and seemed to get stronger the longer the season went on. It has been an honor to work with this team, and I thank Dick Wolff, Peter Jankowski, Wolfent, Lisa Katz, Perlina Egbokwe, Erin Underhill and NBCUniversal for their support and this privilege.

Finally, I want to thank the fans. You’ve stayed loyal to the show, voting in your support and sometimes dismay, for 23 years. No other show can say that, and as you know, everyone at #SVU is grateful to you for that commitment. You are also part of this team.”
