Tony Khan has been super busy lately, and his schedule doesn’t seem to be slowing down in the least, as he just announced the return of a big event for 2022. As AEW prepares after tonight’s Dynamite for Rampage taping this week, Khan told audiences on Long Island that AEW will see them “at In a few months time for the AEW Grand Slam, confirming that the event will return to New York City, specifically Arthur Ashe Stadium, which was also the home of the US Open. 12 Long Island News Earlier in the day, he mocked his announcement and some other details about the Grand Slam.
“Yes, I expect we’ll be back at the Grand Slam tournaments, the AEW Grand Slam – Dynamite and the Rampage, again in Queens at Arthur Ashe Stadium,” Khan said. “It has been a huge success for everyone involved and it’s all thanks to this wonderful partnership with the USTA. They have been so kind and I think it has resulted in a great partnership.”
The original Grand Slam was a quick sale, and Khan added that it was the company’s first million dollar gateway at the time. Khan hopes the upcoming trip will be well received and a success. “[Grand Slam] It was the first almost million dollar gate in AEW history, I was ashamed of it, but it was so close and of course we set that record now, for the AEW Double or Nothing [2022] “Las Vegas became our first million dollar gateway to live tickets and now I’m shocked again for our partnership with New Japan, for the Forbidden Door show at United Center,” Khan said. Hopefully another big hit will be a comeback for Queens at the AEW Grand Slam – Dynamite and Rampage, later this year, in 2022 again.
Next up is AEW Forbidden Door, a joint event with New Japan Pro-Wrestling that will feature a host of dream matches for fans. There is no official match card yet, but we hope to get one soon.
