Xbox Series X getting a much-needed feature soon

The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will get a much-needed feature soon. When Microsoft released the Xbox Series X and its sister console, the Xbox Series S, in 2020, both consoles were fully completed, thanks to a generation of improvement. Microsoft has had a few generations now to figure out what should ship with the console. However, while there are no glaring omissions, both devices have plenty of room for quality of life features. To that end, Microsoft has specifically teased a quality of life feature that will be rolling out soon.

With the new Xbox Update preview, Alpha Skip-Ahead users have a “new feature” that includes group chat. More specifically, a new feature has been enabled that will manipulate microphone input through the noise impression step. What does this mean? It means a cleaner voice in group chat. If you’ve used group chat on Xbox, you’ll know that it’s not the best sound, especially if the other person doesn’t have a good microphone. How much this new feature will mitigate all of this remains to be seen, but it seems like a sufficient upgrade that Xbox felt the need to highlight it.

“We’ve enabled a new feature that will process your microphone input with a noise suppression step to help produce cleaner sound in a Party Chat session,” Microsoft says about the feature. “The setting is enabled by default but can be toggled from the drop-down list of options.”

This feature is only available to Alpha Skip-Ahead users, which means it is in testing. We don’t know when it will be rolled out to everyone, but it usually takes a couple of months for a feature like this to make its way through limited user testing for the broader audience. Having said that, as always, we’ll keep you posted.
