A rock formation resembling an ‘alien entrance’ was spotted on Mars

NASA currently has quite a few missions bound for Mars, and one of them recently snapped a photo that caused a stir online. Earlier this month, the Curiosity rover transmitted an image of a rock formation that appears to have been partially cut off, as if it was the entrance to something buried beneath the surface of Mars.

Despite its smooth edges and hallway-like features, scientists believe it is a natural rock formation. “It’s just the space between two fractures in a rock,” Mars Science Laboratory scientists Ashwin Vasavada said recently. Gizmodo. “The fractures that we see in this region are generally vertical,” he explained. It is possible that this particular entrance shaped fracture formed in one of two ways.”

He added, “I think what we have here [is] Either two vertical fractures, in which the middle piece was removed, or one vertical fracture, and the blocks moved away slightly. “

Curiosity has been on the surface of Mars as part of a NASA mission since August 2012. It was designed to explore Gale Crater, a large crater on the planet’s surface that is 96 miles wide. So far, no concrete evidence supporting the theory of the existence of life on this planet has been discovered.

“Curiosity is exploring and acquiring samples of rock, soil and air for analysis on board,” NASA says of the mission. “The car-sized cart is about as high as a basketball player and uses a 7-foot boom to position tools near the rocks selected for study. Curiosity’s large size allows it to carry a sophisticated set of 10 science instruments. It contains tools including 17 cameras, a laser for vaporization Examining small patches of rock at a distance, and digging to collect crushed rock samples. He looks for special rocks that formed in water and/or have signs of organic matter.”
