Superstar TV producer Dick Wolf has long been the king of network TV action, but he currently has an amazing amount of programming that is aired and nearly all of it is connected as part of a franchise. Crossovers between all nine shows have occurred over the years, but in a new interview, Wolfe opened up about how the talent involved in each enjoyed a surprisingly lenient deal, allowing for crossovers throughout.
Speaking about the shows, all of which have been renewed for next season (some for two more seasons), Wolff said diverse: “It’s a constant exploration of possibilities. There are 56 contracted actors. The concept is that there are nine shows, and anyone in any of the nine shows can appear on the other eight, even on different networks. It’s really cool.” Crossovers between two franchises have occurred only eight times since 2014, but crossovers between franchises are more common between shows. So far, a full crossover between the three hasn’t happened simultaneously yet, but given the flexibility in the actor’s contracts, it looks like it could happen in the future.
“It’s very comforting to know exactly what the legacy will be in the future,” Wolff added. “This company produced and has clear ownership [stakes] One of the longest-running dramas in television history [‘Law & Order: SVU’ is wrapping up Season 23]. I don’t think anyone will catch us. And it’s not over.”
Shows in the Law & Order, FBI, and One Chicago franchises will each conclude their seasons over the next week, leading to their new seasons later in the year. CBS airs all three FBI shows in a row on Tuesdays, while NBC airs the entire One Chicago franchise on Wednesdays, and then all three current Law & Order shows on Thursdays.
