Elvis Presley worked hard in the music industry, but he also played hard. During his spare time, he would spend every moment courting and getting to know many women throughout Hollywood and the music industry.
It wasn’t until he was drafted into the US Army in 1957 that he found a woman for whom he would risk everything.
Elvis was sent to Friedberg, Germany, where he was stationed for a few years in a barracks when he met Priscilla Presley (Beaulieu, at the time).
Sonny West, a member of the Memphis Mafia, wrote in his book, Elvis: He Still Cares about Business, that King was a sucker for his personal addiction. All he wanted was his own, Sonny said. “Houses, cars, women, friends, luxury things. Self-indulgence became his outlet and, over time, his biggest enemy.”
Sonny claimed that it was a lack of self-indulgence that made Elvis believe he wanted to marry and start a family with Priscilla once he returned to the States. He recalls: “I think that’s exactly why he allowed a young lady named Priscilla Anne Beaulieu to re-enter his life, and started thinking about the idea of ’settling down.'”

Tom Parker had previously urged Elvis to break up with his longtime girlfriend, Anita Wood, before he became a worldwide phenomenon. He felt it would be easier to sell Elvis as an artist if he was celibate and available to thousands of girls screaming at his concerts. So when Elvis revealed he was infatuated with a young woman, Tom Parker panicked.
Sony wrote:[Priscilla’s] The natural beauty was undeniable. Her age, however, was a different matter entirely—especially in the eyes of the law. Colonel Tom was even more surprised when he learned that Elvis wanted to bring the 16-year-old to the United States from Germany – without her parents.

Although Elvis was known to be a womanizer, Sonny was adamant that he really wanted to be with Priscilla and Priscilla alone. But he thought their relationship came with some unspoken suspicion.
“I had no doubt that Elvis Presley loved Priscilla Beaulieu,” he wrote in his diary. “But to this day, I still doubt that he wanted to marry her after they had been together for several years.” “The world represented a whole lot of delicious opportunities for Elvis, and he wanted to get a taste of it all. He never wanted to settle down in the prime of his career, if anything,” added Sonny.
He was not forced to settle until Anne-Margaret came into Elvis’ life.
