Sword Art Online will kick off its 10th anniversary celebration with a new special event later this month, pumping out some big announcements for the future of anime! The TV anime series wrapped up the long-running Alicization arc quite a while ago, and while fans have been waiting for the series’ comeback, there have been special new feature-film releases tackling the spin-off Sword Art Online Progressive. But it looks like there could be more in the works as the franchise teases some special announcements for the projects’ anniversary series.

On May 27, this new event is called “Sword Art Online Anime 5.27 LIVE 》》》 Next” Voice actor Kirito Yoshitsugu Matsuoka will be hosting and broadcasting live in Japan, but there is still no provocation as to what exactly the franchise will reveal new information during the event.

The most likely update we’ll get for the future of the anime is in the upcoming Sword Art Online progressive, Schezro of a Dark Dusk. This new movie was previously announced for a planned fall release across theaters in Japan, but there are still no concrete details on what and when fans can expect to see in the new project. There was only a short trailer released as well, so it’s very likely we’ll see a new poster or get a new trailer during the event.
It’s also possible that we’ll see new information about the future of the anime TV series, but that’s very unlikely given that a lot of the focus is on the movie franchise releases at the moment. It’s not impossible, and it would be a huge surprise considering this is a 10th anniversary event, but it might be best to temper expectations about what we can get out of the new event.
