warning! Massive spoilers for the latest manga chapter of One Piece to follow! The latest chapter of the manga series has officially brought an end to the longest fight in One Piece yet as the fight between Luffy and Kaido over the skies above Onigashima appears to have officially ended as well. There are still plenty of questions about what to expect from the upcoming seasons about the fallout from the fight and what that means for the future of Wano Country as a whole, but what’s immediately clear is that a new era for the series will begin.
While Wano Country’s war on Onigashima was indeed the longest war in the series overall, it benefits from years of piling into multiple arcs. The last time this happened on this sort of scale, the series kicked off the time-lapse and new world era of the series that introduced a whole new level of friends and foes for Luffy and the Straw Hats to face. This is the kind of era-shaking event for the series that wouldn’t be the same now. The question remains, what is the next threat that will come in Luffy’s path?
Chapter 1049 of One piece He sees Luffy deal the final blow to Kaido, and while the series has yet to crown the official winner, it’s clear that Luffy has already defeated the Indomitable Emperor. With Law and Kid also defeating Big Mom in an earlier chapter before this end, this means that there are now only two Emperors floating in the seas. It makes one wonder whether or not Shanks or Teech will take the next step in a power vacuum, but that might be a misdirection since we’ll see Shanks in the future. One Piece movie: red.
It’s possible that they’re making their move, but what seems most remarkable is the military threat buildup. Not only did they go after the seven ex-warlords who followed Reverie, but they also tried to interfere in Luffy and Kaido’s fight because they feared what it might mean for Wano. The army was brewing in the background as they were gathering strength and bringing about a change in the state of the world outside of Wano, and Luffy might be the biggest target on him yet when he is officially crowned a new emperor to bring down Kaido.
