Energy Relief Check: Eligibility and Amount for July Payments

TThis is good news for residents AlaskaAfter 15 of the 20 senators approved an important budget on Thursday. Although it still needs the approval of the state House of Representatives, this is encouraging and may see Alaskans receive $3,200 checks to help provide energy relief.

“The budget process is messy, and there is no perfect budget, yet the Senate’s focus on Alaskans should be commended,” Governor Mike Dunleavy He said after the vote.

“I thank the fifteen senators who voted with the people first and foremost in mind.

“This permanent fund is one of the largest in the nation’s history, and comes at a time when people are facing record-high inflation, an increase in the cost of living, and other disruptive events around the world.

“I hope the House will also recognize the difficult times that people are going through and that the windfall the state is enjoying will be shared through the dividend fund to relieve some of the burden.”

The Alaskan government’s initial plan was to pay out $5,500 per person to help save energy, with prices rising dramatically and with the climate in Alaska meaning there’s less relief during the summer months than elsewhere in the USA.

This amount was deemed too much, so the payments were reduced to $3,200, consisting of perpetual fund return and an energy relief check.
