During the release of the Star Wars sequel trilogy – The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker – the Rey family was a huge mystery. The character is abandoned on the desert planet Jaco under mysterious circumstances, and is later proven to have some kind of connection to the Skywalker family.
At that time, many theories were put forward. Maybe Luke Skywalker’s daughter? Or Han’s child from another slander? But the most widespread theory was that she was somehow the granddaughter of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Star Wars president Kennedy has now revealed that this link was discussed a lot behind the scenes at Lucasfilm during production. However, she also revealed that the idea had not been settled for a long time. She blames George Lucas for his decision to leave Obi-Wan and Ray as complete strangers.
“The bigger issue is the talk of Obi-Wan as a Jedi master, and the question of attachment and selflessness,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy points out the nature of the Jedi Order which required its knights, generals, and professors to abide by an oath of celibacy. Of course, Anakin Skywalker disobeyed this law and got pregnant Luke and Leia with his secret wife, Padme Amidala.
But for Obi-Wan, Kennedy says that was never an option. “For Obi-Wan to have a child,” she said, “you’re really affecting the rules about Jedi.”
Kennedy then revealed that, yes, the idea of Rei as a secret Kenobi was discussed.

In the end, it was revealed that Ray was actually linked to the franchise’s villain, Emperor Palpatine. She was the daughter of one of the Palpatine clones – of a man whose name has not yet been mentioned.
For this reason, during the events of The Rise of Skywalker, she was summoned to the dark side and even used Force Lightning to destroy a spaceship. But, the future of the Star Wars series could continue in this family lineage even further.
Rumors have surfaced over the past few years regarding Ray’s next move. According to sources like Mike Zeroh, Rey will be receiving her own TV show on Disney Plus in the coming years. The YouTuber has noted that she’s going to have a son with her, which means the Palpatine family will last – but for how long?
