The Walker Independence Star film series Tears is an “unexpected” play on the Western genre

Walker: IndependencePrequel to Jared Padalecki Walker, is coming to The CW this fall with the upcoming series that tells a story set more than a century before the current series as it follows Cordell Walker’s predecessor, Abigail “Abby” Walker. After the presentation on the network Thursday, fans got their first look at the series and now, star Kathryn McNamara has promised that the series won’t necessarily fit into the standard Western genre.

Not the West you’d expect, said McNamara. TV inside. “Every character is not what it seems on the surface. It has the feel and nostalgia of a Western, but it’s a very modern story with characters going through very cool real things.”

Katie Findlay, who will play comic strip dancer Kate, added that the series is more representative of the landscapes of the time, noting the series’ diversity.

“The boundaries were really very diverse and weird, all sorts of things,” Findlay said. “You can’t often see that because history is written by white men. It’s really nice to be in the cast that is more of a landscape reality at a time when so many people are coming together and struggling to survive.”

Walker: Independence The film is set in the late 19th century and follows Abby Walker, a wealthy Boston woman whose husband was murdered in front of her eyes while on their journey west. In her quest for revenge, Abby meets Hoyt Rollins, a lovable rogue who is looking for a target. Abby and Hoyt’s journey takes them to Independence, Texas, where they meet a diverse, eclectic population escaping their turbulent pasts and pursuing their dreams. Our newfound family will struggle with the changing world around them, while becoming agents of change themselves in a city where nothing seems to exist.

In addition to McNamara and Findlay, the series stars Matt Barr, Lawrence Kao, Greg Hovannisian, and Justin Johnson-Cortez. Seamus Fahey wrote the script for Walker: IndependenceShare story credit with Walker Anna Frick Show. The pair are set to produce the series alongside Padalecki and director Larry Teng. The CW gave the series pre-order earlier this month with a supernatural prequel, winchester.

Walker: Independence will air Thursday this fall at 9/8c, after episodes of Walker.
