Pokemon Red and Blue Fan video reimagines the game with original art style

when pokemon red and blue The game was first released, and it was accompanied by a lot of excellent art from Ken Sugimori. The amazing watercolor art of Sugimori can be found in the instruction manual, player guide, promotional materials, and more. Over the years, Sugimori’s style has evolved greatly, but many old school fans still love the original Pokemon art and designs. Fan artist Pokeyugami on Twitter decided to take Sugimori’s approach and imagine how it could be applied to a modern Pokémon game. The result is nothing short of breathtaking, and longtime fans must see it!

The video from Pokeyugami can be found embedded below.

In the video, we can see Red walking through the Viridian Forest, passing by a small handful of Pokémon that can usually be found in the area, including Caterbury, Weddell, and Pikachu. There’s also a Bug Catcher that looks ready for battle. The user interface is obviously based on Pokemon Legends: Arceus, with the Poke Balls and Potions on the lower right side of the screen, and the backpack and Pokedex are dedicated to the same buttons on the Nintendo Switch game. Pokeyugami obviously put a lot of thought into creating this video!

It’s hard to overstate how awesome this video is. There is something truly magical about the art of the older Pokemon, before each character’s design was completely on model; Game Boy graphics left room for further technical interpretation. It’s also one of the reasons why I’m such a fan of Toshihiro Ono’s Pokemon comic art. For some reason, the Pokemon Company hasn’t made any art books that collect ancient materials, outside of a book based on pokemon adventures Mango. While we likely won’t get an actual game made in the old Sugimori style, it would be great for fans old and new alike to see all that art stuff collected in one place. For now, we’ll just have to keep pestering the Pokemon company to make something happen!
