It’s been more than two years since the last Star Wars movie came out in theaters, and while the galactic TV landscape continues to grow, far, far away, there’s a lot of uncertainty about the franchise’s big-screen future. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently indicated that upcoming films will transcend the events of the sequel trilogy, leading audiences to speculate that future films will take place after that point in time. However, her comments are vague enough to say that the new films will move beyond the sequel trilogy, it can only mean that the new films will move away from those characters and events.
Kennedy explained, “We are moving beyond existing sequels as we look to our film space.” Empire Magazine. “[The sequel era] It’s what we talk about a lot in terms of where we’re going with our movies, and how far away we’re going from that. This is the area we focus on a lot.”
Announced Star Wars films include Patty Jenkins Star Wars: Rogue SquadronIn addition to a film produced by Taika Waititi and Krysty Wilson-Cairns, as well as a film produced by Kevin Feige. Other than knowing it Rogue Squadron It will focus on Rebel Alliance pilots, and no further details have been raised about any of these other projects.
Kennedy’s recent comments reflect similar remarks she made about the “transition” from the Skywalker Saga story.
“Just stay inside the building [George Lucas’] Telling stories, to keep hacking at it, I think it would be a mistake. Our job is to get away now, but we still have a connection to the myths created by George,” Kennedy shared earlier this month with Vanity Fair. “It won’t stop. But we’re moving on from the Skywalker saga. That’s what takes a lot of time, discussion and thought at the moment.”
Over the course of the Skywalker Saga, audiences have seen nearly 70 years of story go by, with the High Republic era of stories being a major initiative chronicling a different point in time for the franchise. Next TV series Star Wars: The Helper It will unfold in this age, although it is not known whether Kennedy’s comments suggest that the new films will transcend 3D or simply explore other corners of the galaxy far, far away during this 70-year period.
