Lucasfilm chief says Star Wars ‘will last forever’

Death and taxes have always been seen as the only certainties in this life, but it looks like we can go ahead and add Star Wars to that list as well. The Star Wars trilogy that makes up the Skywalker Saga spanned several decades. Now, thanks to Disney+, the franchise is exploring several different eras of the iconic galaxy far, far away. There are plenty of stories to explore in different parts of this timeline, some relating to the story of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, and many not connected at all. There is no limit to what this franchise can do, and the producer responsible for it all believes the end is already coming.

At Star Wars Celebration, Variety met Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and asked her about other plans for Star Wars in the future. She said that as long as there are good stories to be told, Star Wars can go on forever.

“We are continuing to expand Mandalorian. Ahsoka is the next iteration of that. Then what John Watts does with his show. Kennedy said it gives us different places on the timeline to look at, because there’s this ongoing Star Wars story. “That’s what we’re building on. So instead of thinking we’re going to make a one-off story, we’re constantly thinking about what that really means inside the long story and the myths that George Lucas created. So it could go on forever, to be perfectly honest. If we had storytellers Gideon, it will go on forever.”

The current Star Wars slate is focused on television. The Mandalorian She maintained the franchise for a few years and there are now several TV shows in various stages of production and development. Not to worry, though, Kennedy and Lucasfilm have a big screen comeback planned for the near future.

“We’re building on the play right now, developing the scenarios,” Kennedy told ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis. “We have two directors we’ll announce soon and you can expect to see Star Wars in theaters very soon.”

The first two episodes of the latest Star Wars series, Obi-Wan KenobiIt is now broadcasting on Disney+.
