Next James Bond: A big new push for Tom Hardy as he battles Henry Cavill | movies | entertainment

Not so long ago, Hardy was the favorite to replace Daniel Craig, as he competed with fellow heavyweight actor Idris Elba. But Luther’s star chances are fading, not least because at the age of 49 he’s already at the top end of the range right now, and the franchise isn’t likely to restart for at least a few more years. Hardy’s chances appear to be fading as well, but his fortunes have been radically reversed with the announcement of the latest prospect. And suddenly, the Venom star started shopping, and he still has a lot of bites on the front of the pack.

When the race to be the next Bond began in 2015, Hardy was a clear favourite. However, the famous actor said he superstitiously believes it’s best not to discuss his hopes of being the next 007 in case it jeopardizes his chances.

Cavill has no such reservations and has been very open about his desire to get into the iconic Aston Martin. Hiopes, which appears to be reinforced by Bond producer Barbara Broccoli’s comments “It’s a big decision. It’s not just about playing a role. It’s about a complete rethink about what we’re going to be going through.”

If that means a change from Craig’s somewhat harsh interpretation, it would look in favor of Cavill, who has handled several lighter roles alongside The Witcher or Superman. Then again, one role may have changed everything for Hardy and UK punters seem to agree with him.

Kinsella added: “Hardy ticks a lot of boxes and this isn’t the first time that the Venom star has hit speculative bets. Reggie Jean Page has drifted to 9/4 from 2/1, but he’s still holding on to the favouritism at this point.”

The big news is that this is the first time in nearly two months that Paige’s odds have ever fallen behind, from his previous irreplaceable lead.

Hardy finds himself to toe with arch rival Henry Cavill, both at 41/, with Aidan Turner trailing at 8/1.

There is a host of big names all rounded up 10/1 from Richard Madden and Idris Elba to Michael Fassbender and James Norton.
