Rosario Dawson is the actress who brought Ahsoka Tano from animation to live action, but she keeps an eye on the character’s origins in the Star Wars cartoons. Dawson first appeared in the role in The MandalorianThe second season is back in boba fett book. After that, star in Ahsoka A Disney+ series that is now filming. The first stills from the show debuted at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim. She emphasized that the series’ animation roots are deep with characters from Star Wars Rebels Jump into live action. This includes Natasha Liu Bordizzo who plays Sabine Wren, a rebellious Mandalorian. Speaking from the conference, Dawson says they have never lost sight of the animation history of these characters and continue to look to specific frames of animation for inspiration in their close combat training.
“Over and over again, yes, freeze frame,” Dawson says. “I think some of my favorite things are actually, so we’re working with this amazing coordinator, Ming, and she’s a Jedi like literally. She was taken to the temple at the age of nine, and from nine to nine I only watched her family once a year, so she was young Basically, then I trained in martial arts for a full 10 years, and this is the one who trains us in Wushu and all kinds of things. And I’ll take frames and clips from shows and show them and be like, ‘Ahsoka can do this.’ Can we train me to do this? And she says, ‘It’s not physically possible. This is an animation, but we can do it.’ And it was really, really amazing. So we thank God for all this research and the history that we got.”
Ahsoka Tano will also return to the anime world, featured prominently in Star Wars: Jedi Tales. This is the newly announced upcoming anthology series featuring stories about Qui-Gon Jinn (with Liam Neeson returning), Count Dooku, and Mace Windu (maybe showing off his breaking point skill). Speaking to ComicBook.com earlier this month, Ahsoka’s voice actress, Ashley Eckstein, said she has not met, spoken to, or otherwise contributed to Dawson. Ahsoka Live show. “It’s something I haven’t been a part of,” Eckstein said. “I’d like to be, but I’m just a fan at this point. I’m not involved in the live-action series. I haven’t met Rosario Dawson yet. We’ve never had the pleasure of meeting. I’m talking about throwing your dreams into the universe. And so it’s definitely my dream to get involved someday. And maybe I’ll make a cameo or you’ll play a role, or you’ll meet Rosario sometime, someday. You got to throw your dreams into the universe.”
