Who is Sean Sweeter and how did he die?
Sean Sweeter was a detective with the Baltimore Police Department. He started his career as a patrolman and drug investigator and became a homicide detective in 2015.
Shawn Matt While he and his partner David Pomenka investigate a murder in the Bennett Place neighborhood of Baltimore. During the investigation, Sean walked away from his partner and later found him on the ground with a bullet in the head.
Sean died at the University of Maryland Medical Center a day later. His death sparked widespread controversy, with a lack of evidence making it difficult to ascertain the cause of his death.
Sean died one day before he was scheduled to testify in a case involving eight officers of the Baltimore Arms Tracking Squad.

The independent review board ruled it was a suicide
Baltimore Sun Officers said Sean was shot from a rifle that was found under his body. However, the coroner officially ruled his death as murder.
As Newsweek reported, though, an independent review board investigated Sean’s death and called it a suicide – something his family vehemently refutes to this day.

Talking to Newsweek, We own this city Co-creator David Simon said: “I think for the sake of viewers we should let people experience what moments are known, what has been seen, and let people decide as they want to.
“I think everyone sees that from the perspective of their own policies, perhaps more than they see from the perspective of factual evidence.”
Actor Jimmy Hectorwho portrays Sean Sweeter, said, “I feel like the show is talking about exactly what he knows, you know…that’s what happened with Sean until the moment we don’t know what happened to Sean.”
