The June 2022 State of Play event kicks off on PS5 today, with Sony teasing some “exciting” third-party ads in the Store. The 30-minute show will take place at 11pm UK time with PlayStation VR 2 news confirming the event, as well as the upcoming Horizon VR game update for PSVR2. But the rumor mill claimed that another big reveal could be in store like the Final Fantasy 16, Street Fighter 6 and Resident Evil 4 Remake shows.
Final Fantasy 16 is one of the most awaited PS5 games on the horizon, as the Square Enix title made its debut during the PS5 Games Show in September 2020.
Since then, news about the project has been thin on the ground, with no more trailers or screenshots for the PlayStation 5 exclusive to be revealed.
That may all be about to change soon. Square Enix previously hinted at Final Fantasy 16 updates that will be dropping this summer, and in the lead up to Today’s State of Play, the listing on the PS Store for Final Fantasy 16 received an update — which could hint at an incoming announcement.
If Square Enix is a hit if you play today, we can also hear more about Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, but the project is believed to be a long way from its launch, with Final Fantasy 16 expected to get a release date like as early as this general.
Elsewhere, Street Fighter 6 – which was first revealed earlier this year – may be shown in play today.
That’s according to well-known journalist Jeff Grob, where a VentureBeat reporter recently said he believes Capcom’s new fighter will appear during State of Play.
When Sony announced State of Play in June 2022, the PS5 and PS4 makers said they had some “exciting” third-party ads in the store.
In response to this on Twitter, Grubb said: “This may be where SF6 comes in. It’s the only thing Capcom is supposed to reveal this summer.”
The Resident Evil 4 Remake is another in-progress Capcom title that could appear during the State of Play, with rumors swirling about the unannounced survival game horror for some time now.

If Capcom unveils RE4 Remake during State of Play, they’ll still stick to form for the past few years.
Resident Evil 3 Remake was revealed during the State of Play broadcast while Resident Evil 2 Remake was revealed at the latest Sony E3 event.
Of course, with rumors, it is better to eat a little salt. But the three titles mentioned above seem to be among the strongest potential candidates to showcase the state of play.
Other games that are also expected to appear during State of Play tonight include Modern Warfare 2, news of the next generation release of Red Dead Redemption 2, and possibly even the reveal of Death Stranding 2.
Another upcoming game that has been hugely rumored to be finally announced this summer are new titles in the Silent Hill series.
Several Silent Hill games are said to be in the works including a remake of Silent Hill 2 and a new main game.
While there are a lot of rumors swirling around it, today’s Sony conference is just 30 minutes long.
So some of the games most likely to appear tonight could instead appear at a later date.
With the Summer Game Fest approaching, this is one place publishers can drop some big announcements, while Sony may also be planning other events later this year where news can be revealed — like a new PS5 game show or PlayStation Experience conference.
