There is no denying how much the Resident Evil series has impacted the Survival Horror universe. Perhaps one of the closest “like Resident Evil” titles, Silent Hill has had its own hit franchise that has spawned some great (and horrifying) games over the years. Although fans should start from the original Silent Hill if they want to fully experience the franchise, perhaps the best game in the series is Silent Hill 2.
Silent Hill 2 not only has an amazing story, but it’s also packed with exciting (albeit odd) puzzles, Resident Evil-style battles, and the same gritty camera that made the original Resident Evil a surreal and engaging experience. This should be where all Resident Evil fans start, when searching for similar games.

Similar to Resident Evil, The Evil Within is a horror survival game that plays similar to the popular franchise, but with an updated feel. Pretty much its own game, The Evil Inside is a surreal nightmare that delves into the protagonist’s mind, battling against all kinds of enemies and terrifying bosses along the way.
The Evil Inside feels like a traditional Resident Evil title, featuring similar combat, puzzles, and horribly tense moments, but it ignores the cliched camera and tank controls for something more palatable to modern audiences. It is definitely an experience that Resident Evil fans should enjoy.
dead space
Resident Evil in space seems like a ridiculous concept, but the overall implementation of Dead Space turns this seemingly out-of-the-box idea into an absolutely stunning game franchise. While the latest Dead Space game has been somewhat of a thrill for a horror-hungry audience, the two original games are perhaps some of the most stomach-churning and nail-biting games ever launched on the market.
Players who enjoy the Resident Evil series will find a lot of similar gameplay elements that feel “at home” in Dead Space but should be aware that it is largely a game of its own, with its complexities and mechanics that make it feel like a complete game. A new franchise in this genre.
Alien: Solitude
Another sci-fi inspired title, this one is a lot more horror than the original Alien movies. Players will not find themselves holding out weapons and solving strange puzzles, nor will they fight against powerful bosses. Instead, they will find themselves isolated, alone on a ship with one of the most predatory and fearsome aliens in all of Hollywood.
Alien: Isolation takes a pre-created horror monster and raises the disc to 11, leaving players feeling completely helpless as they try everything they can to hide from and escape the acid-spitting creature.

When it comes to feeling helpless and lonely, few games are as terrifying as Outlast. Alien: Isolation makes players suffocate with the idea that the Xenomorph is waiting somewhere to pounce on them, but Outlast introduces the player to the idea that danger may be lurking around every corner.
Armed only with a video camera, players will have to hide, run and outwit their ghostly foes to survive the horrific ordeal. Outlast does a great job of keeping the player on edge by constantly introducing them to new threats.
Animusha
Onimusha was definitely a title that flew under the radar for many. Although it looks like a samurai-inspired version from the outside, it’s actually much more dangerous once players start making their way through the game. Onimusha is very similar to the Resident Evil version. It features the same terrifying camera angles, as well as a host of weird puzzles that players will need to solve.
All this is wrapped up by hordes of demonic enemies that players must fight through the use of an array of weapons. It’s a great experience and a nice change of pace for those who want to experience something like Resident Evil in terms of gameplay.
