WB’s Joker 2 may be ‘very soon’ according to a new report

There may not be time at all until a joker The sequel introduces serious development. In a recent report looking at corporate shuffling at Warner Bros. Discovery, the studio was said to be “very close” to the green light to pursue Todd Phillips. The same report comes from insider Matthew Belloni from imp news, who suggests David Zaslav as Warner’s new CEO is all there is to Phillips. Earlier this month, other reports indicated that Warners Brothers was looking to mentor Phillips with a larger role within DC Films.

Joaquin Phoenix’s origin story ended with The Clown Prince of the Box Office, with earnings of $1.074 billion worldwide. Since the Oscar-winning film only had a production budget of about $55 million, the picture is believed to be the highest-grossing comic book film ever released.

As recently as last October, Phoenix played timidly regarding the follow-up, saying that they threw out ideas while filming the first movie, and stopped short of confirming any serious plans for a sequel that were put in place.

“I mean, I don’t know. Since we were shooting, we started—you know, uh, that’s an interesting guy,” said Phoenix. Playlist. “There are some things we can do with this guy and we can [explore] in addition to. But whether we actually do it? I don’t know.”

At one point, Phillips said his Warner Brothers debut was a full-on brand under DC Films, presumably making more exciting movies like Joker.

“When I showed them Joker, it wasn’t a movie, it was, let’s do a full rating,” Phillips said in 2019. They quickly closed it and got it. Who am I to start a poster in a movie studio? But they said, let’s do this. “

He added, “Here’s the real truth about a sequel. While Joaquin and I have been talking about it, and as we’re going around the world with Warner Bros. CEOs—going to Toronto, Venice, and other places—of course, we’re sitting at dinner and saying, ‘So, did you think In…?” But, speaking of contracts, no contract for us even to write a sequel, we never got close to Joaquin to be in a sequel. Would that happen? Again, I just think the article was proactive at best.”
