Ryan Reynolds takes big wireless networks and swells up in new Mint Mobile ad

Lots of people struggle with notions of macroeconomics, so it may come as no surprise that Ryan Reynolds has juggled the double definition of “inflation” in a new ad for Mint Mobile, stabbing big wireless companies and promising temporary price cuts for unsuspecting mobile and texting software. Limited mint stock in trade. Well… Unlimited mobile ad campaigns and whimsical served by America’s most charming shooters.

Here, he gets a little help from an angry goat. After all, this is the opposite of what the major wireless companies would do.

You can see the ad below. The goat thing makes (a bit) more sense in context.

The Mint Unlimited plan is usually $30 per month (available in prepaid packages for 3, 6, or 12 months), while the discounted rate is just $15. The Mint, built on the basis of the T Mobile network, has coverage in most of the United States, and has options for consumers who want to either purchase a phone through Mint or bring a previous unlocked phone.

The Mint brand is a discounter, and they’ve doubled that multiple times, from allowing some consumers to lock in a $1 monthly fee at the time of the brand’s launch, to hitting like a cobra when competing wireless providers raise prices. They’re arguably more famous for their whimsical and inspiring ad campaigns, though. Among other things, Reynolds persuaded ’80s comedy icon Rick Moranis out of retirement to appear in one. Most recently, Reynolds collaborated with Nick Cannon on a vasectomy-themed Father’s Day ad for his other non-acting project, Aviation Gin.

Reynolds keeps busy with weird and effective fly ads too: Recently, Reynolds hired LeVar Burton for a commercial after the star’s successful campaign to become a temp. Risk! Host. as . did green lantern Watching the party, which he needed a gin in order to get through. Gin Airlines isn’t the only company Reynolds is involved with. In fact, I have the honor of the cover Entrepreneur . Magazine last year. Through his production company, Maximum Effort, Reynolds has put together a bunch of great ads for his company, Mint Mobile, including one that brought Rick Moranis out of retirement and another that featured Gary Busey’s Cameo. Maximum Effort has also done a funny commercial for Match.com in the past and Reynolds has been doing some great HighKey snack ads as the voice of Sugar Panda.
