With the world collapsing, Nikki, Zylan, and Mia (Vanessa Yao) fight to keep Russell trapped there to save the world. Zilan eventually stayed behind to imprison him, bringing Mia and Nikki back to safety.
“Nikki, she’s been very black and white about good and bad since season one, and the audience got to see Zilan and how she became what she is,” Liang said. ComicBook.com. “But Nikki doesn’t know any of Zilan’s story. All she knows about her is that she killed Shifu, who was her sister, and several other people and she seems to have no remorse at all. So, when- Ling urges her to work with that person who Nikki thinks He’s pure evil, a monster, as she said a few episodes ago, and then getting to know that this guy isn’t really a monster, he’s just a broken person who needs forgiveness, who needs to be loved and who can be redeemed. I think that changed Nikki’s whole worldview.”
She continued, “So, by going through this in the world and then walking out after Gillan sacrificed herself for the greater good, I think it totally changed Nikki for the better.”
Liang said that Zilan’s sacrifices were particularly moved by her even reading the script, noting that she was not prepared for Zilan’s last line, a throwback to the opponent’s insulting way of referring to Nikki.
“I really cried when I read Zilan’s last line to Nikki,” she said. “Go home, little monk. I was like, “Oh my God. No now it’s a grainy term. Are you serious?” Yes, I wasn’t ready for that.”
