A new update timing the potential release of the new college football game from Electronic Arts indicates that the game is still on its way to release about a year from now. The latest in-game release follows a report from 2021 that EA will target a release window in July 2023 for EA Sports College Football. EA hasn’t officially announced a game release date, nor even a more specific window for the game.
Reporter Matt Brown shared the latest news on college football this week that consisted of details gleaned about the project from Freedom of Information Act requests aimed at finding out what the Collective Licensing Corporation was requesting from NCAA schools that were supposed to participate in the game. It was these Freedom of Information Act requests from last year that brought back the July 2023 issue window, although those initial documents were dated January 15, 2021, so things could have been easily changed now. Brown’s most recent FOIA requests It set records as of February 25, 2022, which stated that “the development of the game is in full swing, and the launch target is still the summer of 2023”.
For those who often describe leaks, rumors and may have seen a different release window float up, Brown noted that he’s seen some graphics on social media suggesting the game will release in Winter 2023 instead, but based on documents he reviewed and additional sources, July remains 2023 is the goal.
Explaining the contents of documents obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests, Brown said the Volume Licensing Foundation requires these colleges to provide “stadium assets” for their use that include not only music, but also chants, chants, and other audio assets identified for schools that will be in the game. The implication of this, Brown suggested, was that EA was looking to recreate the stadium experiences that each school felt closely, which should be a nice nod to the many college football fans who are already looking forward to the game.
EA has yet to confirm the launch window for the new college football game, but for now, fans can hope for it to release in July 2023.
