Matalas spoke about how, as a fan, the trauma of working with all of these iconic actors on Star Trek has only now affected him as he works through post-production for season three.
Matalas said (via Trek Moviecopy). “I’m going to say they’re all reunited again. And there are a few things that happen and I remember turning to my assistant, and I said, ‘Now, I should cry, but I’m too nervous to get it right.'” Because I don’t want to screw it up. That’s the key.
“The moments that are really after, when I can now watch that moment and it’s not Patrick, Frakes, Lifar, Gates, Marina, Michael. It’s Picard, Riker, Jordi. And the music is ready. One of the things I’ve been spending a lot of time on now. It’s music, it’s very much in the soul [Jerry] goldsmith and [James] Horner… And so when you see those moments with the score, it hits. You’re like, ‘Oh my God, we did this! “
That’s when Matalas mentioned some other returning characters. He didn’t say who specifically, but said that in a strange way, the return of the lesser-known character hit him the most.
“And funny enough, there are moments — because there are some people who have come back from Star Trek this season that aren’t just a next-generation cast,” he said. “There’s one character in Next Gen that I was like, ‘I really want this character to come back. And when they did, it was oddly more exciting than anything else in its entirety.
Matalas previously expressed his happiness at the reunion next generationIn a press release announcing their return. “I remember watching a movie premiere Star Trek: The Next Generation Almost 34 years with my dad as it was yesterday. It was the spark that lit my love of science fiction, Matalas said. “It is therefore very fitting that Jean-Luc Picard’s story ends in honoring the beginning, with his dear and most loyal friends from the USS project.
