Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madness It makes its way to Disney+ this week, allowing fans to experience (or revisit) a blockbuster Marvel Studios movie. One of the most charismatic additions to the saga’s lineup, America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) may be, debuted in film after more than a decade of comic appearances. Gomez’s portrayal of America ended up turning into a multi-world madness in some highly unexpected ways – and the events of the film may have laid the foundation for an idea about it.
Created by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta in 2011 Revenge, Chavez America arose as a unique heritage version of the golden age superhero Miss America, with super strength, super speed and flight capabilities. During subsequent comedic appearances, the status quo of America has been personified by other creative teams, with its existence revealed from the angle of the multiverse known as the perfect parallel. Along the way, America was confirmed to be a lesbian, entered into romantic relationships with characters like Lisa Halloran and Ramon Watts, and developed a close friendship with Kate Bishop/Hawk. As her popularity grew, America eventually topped her own comic book on several occasions, making her the first LGBT Latin American character in the Marvel Universe to have her own ongoing single.
The emergence of America in The multiverse of madness Much of these traits intensify during the film’s two-hour run, as the story of the origin of her power unfolds in the utopian parallel, and unraveling the enduring mystery of whether or not her mother is still in the multiverse. We also got to see America briefly sharing a scene with an alternate version of Earth by Billy and Tommy Maximoff, eventually working alongside the Young Avengers. The end of the film left America comfortably at her home on land 616, where she was studying as a student at the Sufi School of Arts in Kamar Taj. And while the movie didn’t explicitly affirm America’s LGBTQ+ identity, with the majority of the discussion raging over her mother’s appearance, Marvel CEO Victoria Alonso confirmed that Gomez’s version of the character is also part of the LGBTQ+ community.
All of these elements seem large enough to be explored in the future, and it certainly looks as if Marvel Studios has aspirations to do so, with The multiverse of madness Author Michael Waldron teasing for Vanity Fair The film deliberately attempted to “prepare a mystery to be solved in the future” regarding America’s search for its mothers. While this story could easily be folded into the next MCU multiverse story, or even into a larger story Young Avengers Spinoff, there’s enough meat on the bone to warrant a hypothetical solo show for America. Just look at America, her first solo series written by Gabe Rivera with art from a rotating group of artists. The series followed America during her time as an undergraduate at Sotomayor University, building a supportive cast of diverse allies and adversaries around her. While the MCU’s version of America may not be headed for college yet, it’s not impossible to imagine a solo story about her high school on the go, her role as a superhero on a new land, and perhaps even her relationships with mystic masters.
