Fresh at the conclusion of John Diggle’s long story Arrowverse, Sparkle Season 8 is nearing the end of the race, but fans of the long-running DC TV show don’t have to worry because Season 9 is on the way. As was the case in previous seasons Sparkle (Pretty much in every Arrowverse show), it makes sense that the Season 8 finale, also known as “Negative: Part Two,” could one day set the stage for it. Sparkle Season 9, but before that, we learned that one of the show’s main villains has returned. Ramsay Russo, a.k.a. Bloodwork, is back in action in Season 9, and this was revealed in a fashion on trademark: cliffhanger at the end of the comic book.
Over the past several months, DC Comics has been publishing Earth-Prime, an Arrowverse comic series that follows a diverse cast of heroes from the CW’s DC shows, the latest installment, Earth Chief: Twilight Hero Number 6, connecting the intersection’s narrative threads, there’s also a backup story (written by Jeff Harsh and Thomas Pound, illustrated by Pablo M. Sparkle Season 8 and plays the Arrowverse against the Phantom Girl.
This backup story, which takes place at an ARGUS facility, begins with Cisco and Kamilla training Tena to use her step-by-step capabilities more effectively. However, they soon have to deal with a prison riot that brings them into conflict with the Weather Witch, Doctor Polaris, Girder and the ARGUS Ranger controlled by Medusa Mask. Cisco and Tinya defeat the super-criminals in the end, but their victory is tainted in part by the fact that during the riots, the Bloodwork breaks free. The final painting ended with this blurriness: “To keep going Sparkle Season 9. ” It is also worth noting that inside Earth Chief: Twilight Hero Main Story #6, a futuristic version of Bloodwork appeared in Central City in the year 2049, but was soon removed by Martian Manhunter. As far as blood work is concerned nowadays, it’s in the wind, which isn’t good for anyone.
Bloodwork, played by Champions‘Sendhil Ramamurthy, serves as the main antagonist in the first half of Sparkle Season 6, in which Ramsay Russo is introduced as a co-star of Caitlin Snow who is desperate to find a cure for HLH, the cancer that killed his mother and was likely to suffer one day as well. To this end, Ramsay injected his blood with a therapeutic cocktail containing dark matter, which gave him the ability to control and manipulate the blood. This in turn allowed him to do things like control people’s will through “infection”, resurrect his victims as “zombies”, form blood contracts and, if enough blood was sucked in, transform into the monster that appears below.
Ramsey nearly managed to infect every Central City with the help of Dark Flash, meaning Barry Allen was under his control, but the rest of Team Flash managed to get the Scarlet Speedster back to normal, defeating the villain soon after. Ramsay was then placed in a mental enhancement room (MAC) and moved to ARGUS custody. He was last seen in a Season 6 episode “Liberation” when Eva McCulloch’s mirror follower sought Ramsey for a sample of his own blood. Ramsey was forced, but then returned to MAC rather than running away because he was “playing the long game”.
So for more than two years now, Sparkle Fans have been waiting for the reward for the ominous Bloodwork message, and thanks to Earth Chief: Twilight Hero #6 (which you can read on DC Universe Infinite), we now know that this is coming in Season 9. It’s unclear if Bloodwork will be one of the main antagonists next season or if it will be a threat that Barry Allen and the gang will face in just an episode or two. Either way, considering the speculation that Season 9 may be over for her SparkleIn the final season, it’s nice to know that this plot theme is pursued at the end rather than being left hanging around.
You can watch the final episodes of Sparkle Season 8 will air Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on The CW, and season 9 will air as part of the network’s mid-season block next year.
