As fun as it all sounds, Square Enix takes this entry very seriously. Ultimately, Yoshida stated that they didn’t want to be held back by a T-rated and Square Enix allowed developers to focus on the more mature story. Despite this, Yoshida was also adamant that the game’s rating didn’t mean it would be too hideous with violence or other content and it was largely executed.
“When trying to tell a story with difficult themes for adults, these ratings can end up becoming a bit of a hindrance,” Yoshida said. “And you find yourself changing things that you wanted to do in the game based on that rating.” “This time, to make sure we can tell the story we wanted the way we wanted, we’ve decided to pursue a mature evaluation in most of the areas that the game will release.”
More information is expected in Final Fantasy XVI later this fall. We’ll likely have a better understanding of the game’s more mature themes and story by then.
