Last night, the Hollywood premiere of Thor Love and Thunder took place, with Chris Hemsworth and co-stars in attendance. Critics praised the Marvel movie for its humor and absurdity, while also highlighting how horrifying Christian Bale villain Gore is. Here are some highlights of the first backlash review from the high praise for those who felt the MCU movie was a mediocre entry into the franchise.

#ThorLoveAndThunder is predictably funny but unexpectedly personal and heartfelt. Christian Bale and Natalie Portman’s performances really shine while Waititi delivers an emotional story. I think this might be my favorite Thor movie.

Thor love and electric thunder! A silly, high-energy delight with a crew full of ace-crushing graphics, scene after scene. Lots of laughs (my face legitimately hurts), Christian Bale Gore’s menace is scary, but most of all it’s a movie full of good feelings and heart. Just as Doctor Strange 2 feels very Raimi, one of Thor Love & Thunder’s best qualities is that it is pure Taika. It continues to be such a unique sound that I can’t get enough of it. The MCU is particularly drawn to the styles, sounds, and visions of its directors, and I love it.

Thor Love and Thunder has an appetite for destruction and laughter. It’s totally rad! Taika Waititi presents a subversive, disrespectful spectacle. Great story, risks and character building. Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, the adorable Russell Crowe and Christian Bale slip easily into the world. There’s so much uncontrolled, unrestrained, and totally uncommon craziness in #ThorLoveAndThunder that I’m still shocked that they slipped into/get away with it. And bless what they did. It balances out the heart-wrenching storylines, too.

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER is a great time with exciting action, lots of laughter (screaming goats!) and a deep story about absent deities and our desire for love. Natalie Portman returns in force and is slain by Christian Bale as the terrifying Gore. Best Thor movie so far!

Another classic Thor adventure! #ThorLoveAndThunder is everything I wanted it to be. Big, weird, and colorful battles fueled by Guns N’ Roses go with a hopeless romance about discovering love in unexpected places. Christian Bale and Russell Crowe are especially great. And Korg!

Thor Love and Thunder is the greatest Marvel movie to date! I’m not joking. I haven’t laughed this much since Ragnarok and feel like I’m investing in Marvel again in a way I haven’t since Endgame. Also, bring napkins. The journey is a “Chef’s Kiss” from start to finish!

So, #ThorLoveAndThunder I have thoughts and feelings, many of which are spoiled, some of which I am not happy with. What I can talk about is that the thing that made #ThorRagnarok such fresh air is how different it is from the other films. However, you cannot be the same fresh air twice, so you need to increase the emotional connection to the characters and the plot. Watch The Guardians movies. #ThorLoveAndThunder tries but can’t quite beat it, and it turns out to be weirdly restricted, which is a shame. However, it’s not a bad movie, and maybe #ThorLoveAndThunder will do as well for me in the same way that #ThorRagnarok did. Nice to see #JaneFoster again; #Valkyrie is love, and there is not enough #gore. Not a bad entry in the #Marvel universe, but not a great one either.

Thor Love and Thunder is the funniest movie in the MCU. The jokes are excellent as delivered by the actors. Apparently Christian Bale is also terrifying as #Gorr BUT, I felt the plot was flat and loose. Not sure if this is a #Thor issue or an MCU-without-a-big-bad issue.
