IDW Publishing acquired Star Trek’s license in 2006, and saved it from a near-mysterious, oblivion-like state in the early 2000s. Instead of repeating what previous licensees Marvel and DC Comics did by releasing an ongoing series based on various Star Trek TV series, IDW took a more subtle approach, releasing more focused mini-series. It was the first foray of the Punisher Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Space Between In 2007. Finally, the company launched an ongoing series titled Simply Star Trek, to fill in the gaps in the Kelvin Timeline between the JJ Abrams Star Trek films. The series ran for 60 issues and its story continued in Star Trek: Go Boldafter set Star Trek Beyondevents. The publisher has also released several crossovers, including Star Trek / Legion of Super-Heroes, Star Trek: The Next Generation / Doctor Who: Assimilation²And the Star Trek / Planet of the ApesAnd the Star Trek/Green LanternAnd the Star Trek vs Transformers. Recently, the publisher delved into Star Trek’s Mirror Universe.

Star Trek #400 will go on sale September 7.
