Why is my Instagram background black? Involuntary dark mode annoys users

More than 1.2 billion per month UsersInstagram is one of the most popular social media platforms in 2022 – but also the most frustrating.

The app always seems to be crashing right now, leaving users unable to do basic things like logging in, watching stories, sharing posts, and sending direct messages.

Even when the app is working properly, users are still annoyed because Instagram is always adding new features that people don’t really want.

From showing only suggested posts in your feed to new, larger formats, users aren’t keen on the latest changes at all.

Why is your Instagram background black

This week, a lot of Instagram users logged into Instagram to find that their app suddenly turned black without changing the settings.

Users usually choose whether they want the background to be white or black, but the app switched to dark mode for many users who chose to have it white.

One person Wrote on Twitter: “Why did I change my insta feed to black background? Now I’m having a hard time reading comments!!!!”

“Why is my news feed suddenly in dark mode? Please tell me how to get it back!” He said else.

third person added: “Anyone else on Instagram in this full screen mode? And dark mode? How do I remove this?”

Your Instagram appears to be black due to the latest app update. For some reason, the latest update caused a lot of accounts to involuntarily switch to dark mode.

At the moment, there isn’t much of an explanation as to why this happens, but find out how to check your background settings below.

Instagram wallpaper is selected by your phone settings

At the time of writing, Instagram has not addressed why this is happening to many accounts, but it appears to be an issue in its latest update.

Unfortunately, there is no way to change the Instagram color settings within the app as it is determined by your phone’s settings.

If your iOS or Android device is in light mode, Instagram will appear in white. Similarly, if your device is in dark mode, Instagram will be in black.

To check your color settings on your iOS device, head to Settings > Display & Brightness and there will be a blue tick either in “Light” or “Dark”.

Try changing your phone settings to “Dark” mode and then back to “Light” as this may fix your Instagram background.

If your phone is set to “light” but Instagram still appears black, there is unfortunately nothing else you can do and your app will still be stuck in dark mode.

The easiest way to contact Instagram for further assistance is via Twitter.

Instagram posts are bigger too

In addition to their Instagram being in dark mode, many users’ feeds have changed so that posts now appear in full screen mode.

This is due to new changes to the Instagram layout which means that posts are now larger, take up more screen space and are placed in a 16:9 ratio.

Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, took to Twitter last month announce The new feed changes.

“We’re moving Instagram to a place where video is a bigger part of the home experience, where content is more engaging – it takes up more screen space,” he said.

The 39-year-old also revealed that photos and videos will now take up more space on your screen and be taller in a 16:9 ratio.

However, he revealed that this is just an experiment and said they will “learn as much as they can over the next few weeks” before deciding to offer the features to everyone.
