WWE’s Gunther defeats Ricochet to retain the Intercontinental Championship in a SmackDay

After losing the Intercontinental Champion to the newest Gunther at WWE SmackDown, Ricochet was ready to reclaim his title in tonight’s SmackDown Intercontinental Championship. Gunther was as self-confident as ever, but Ricochet came out rocking with quick attacks that seemed to put Gunther off balance. Eventually, Gunther turned the tables and his awesome power was too much for Ricochet, cutting many comeback attempts before they could fully move forward. In the end, Gunther was able to pin Ricochet and take the win, and continue the reign of the SmackDown Championship, we’ll have to wait and see what’s next for General Ring.

At the start of the match, Ricochet hit first with a drop kick and followed it up with punches and headshots. Gunther took a kick and hit him on the carpet, followed by a large boot on his head. Stumps came next and then hit Gunther hard, but Ricochet came back with punches. That return attempt was thwarted by Gunther sitting on Ricochet’s back, then more punches followed. Ricochet jumped off the ropes, then fell to his feet and hit Inzigori.

A jogger’s knee followed, but a clothesline from Gunther dropped him. More capital letters were connected in the corner and then the German Gunther hit. suplex; Gunther then hit a free kick that sent Ricochet hovering, hitting the powerbomb afterward and covering the pin and win. Gunther is still your intercontinental hero.

It remains to be seen what’s next for Ricochet and Guenther. Gunther will likely have a new contender, as Ricochet already had a title rematch, and will likely have to return to the competition. For Gunther’s next contender, Sami Zayn may want to return to the title mix he once held, but perhaps one of Max Dupri’s new agents will give Gunther some new opposition once they debut.
