Amazon Prime has been teasing the third season of The Boys’ adaptation of the infamous “Herogasm” story from the comics, and this week it finally launched on the streaming service. While the live-action adaptation isn’t as brutal as the comics, it definitely brought this story back to life in the best possible way. During the episode, Chase Crawford’s The Deep engages in intercourse with an octopus until Starlight catches him. The scene in question is really weird, but as it turns out, the idea came from a very sane place. In a new interview with diverseCrawford revealed that series creator Eric Kripke got the idea from My octopus teacher documentary.
Crawford revealed he was “watching that documentary”. “What is a very touching documentary that was like, ‘Is the guy, like, sexual with him?'” Does he go, like, fuck that octopus? ‘ That was on Kripke’s mind and he was like, ‘Oh, that’s going to the book room.’
“I’m going to present it with this: It’s so ridiculous, said Kripke. Scientifically it can’t actually happen. There’s no hatch. So it does exist, but this rig was the most complicated and troublesome. I didn’t realize how heavy it would be. It was like a knot. It was. It hung and twisted, but it was so heavy that they kept having to separate the legs because I couldn’t keep doing it all day with this 40 pound thing.” Boys star added.
