Apple is preparing to launch a full range of products at its upcoming event in September and in the first half of 2023, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gorman.
After announcing the new MacBook Air 2022 And the MacBook Pro 2022 13 inch brand new M2 . chip At this year’s WWDC, it looks like Apple hasn’t finished its Macbook lineup just yet. They are said to be working on new Macs that will be powered by a new M2 Pro chip.
In his last book Power On Newsletter (Opens in a new tab), Mark Gorman details additional Macs in Apple’s Product Roadmap. This includes the new Mac mini 2022 model, which could come with an M2 chip and M2 Pro chipset, while the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro will apparently be available in the M2 Pro and M2 Max variants.
Gurman also mentions a new Mac Pro tower with M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme chips. The products are clearly “coming in much faster succession than the M1-based Macs.”
The core of Apple’s new Macs will remain the powerful new M2 chip and macOS Ventura announced at WWDC 2022.
It looks like the M2 isn’t the only “new” Apple chip this year, if what Gurman says is true – we could have multiple Apple oven sub chips each running on a specific product.
The Mac Pro is already the most powerful desktop computer Apple sells — so it’s exciting to see what Apple has to offer with high-octane audio chips like the “M2 Ultra” and “M2 Extreme.”
The number of new chips does not end there. Gurman also claims that Apple is working on the next M3 chip and that we might see it on a 13-inch Macbook Air in 2023.
Gurman writes, “Apple is also already working on the M2 successor, the M3, and the company plans to use that chip early next year with updates for the 13-inch MacBook Air.”
There may also be a 15-inch Macbook Air 2023 and a new 12-inch laptop in the works for next year.
New Apple HomePod
Yes, that’s the big surprise Gorman said in his newsletter. Apple abruptly discontinued the HomePod smart speaker in 2021, but now Gurman has reported the possibility of a new HomePod being launched by the company.
According to Gorman, the new HomePod will likely look similar to the 2018 HomePod. It could have Apple’s upcoming S8 chip that looks like it’s coming to the Apple Watch 8 and could also have an updated display on the top of the speaker which might include multi-touch functionality .
The only smart speaker currently with Apple’s Siri is the HomePod Mini, which retails for $99 and comes with an S5 chip. The S8 on the HomePod could mean a lot of power and an improvement in audio performance, but at the same time it could mean we might not see a new iteration of the HomePod Mini anytime soon.
The HomePod was priced at $349 and was one of the most expensive smart speakers at the time. The HomePod Mini, on the other hand, has been more successful as it squeezed some of the best HomePod features into a more compact and affordable device.
It’s not clear if the HomePod will launch this year or early next year.
Gurman says Apple is “on the verge of embarking on one of the most ambitious periods of new product in its history” with the deluge of products to be launched.
