Elmo from Sesame Street gets the first vaccine against the Corona virus

Elmo, one Sesame StreetHis most beloved puppet, has now received his own COVID-19 vaccine. On Tuesday, Sesame Workshop released a public service announcement featuring Elmo and his father, Louie, which revealed that Elmo had received the vaccine. Elmo is only three and a half years old. At the PSA, Lewis said he had questions about the vaccine, but spoke with his pediatrician to make an informed decision while Elmo noted that the shot itself wasn’t too bad. You can check the PSA for yourself below.

“Was it safe? Was it the right decision?” Lowe says at PSA. “I spoke to our pediatrician so I could make the right decision. I learned that vaccinating Elmo is the best way to keep himself, our friends, our neighbors, and everyone else healthy and enjoying the things they love.”

Elmo is just the latest Sesame Street Personal to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Big Bird, age 6, received his vaccine in November and also showed up for his PSA. Elmo’s vaccination comes after the US Food and Drug Administration announced earlier this month that it had granted emergency use authorization for both the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines for children aged 6 months and older. Children under 5 years of age will be considered fully vaccinated with two doses of Moderna vaccine (one-fourth of the adult dose) four weeks apart or three doses of Pfizer BioNTech vaccine (one-tenth of the adult dose) with the first two doses three weeks apart and the third at least eight weeks after the second.

“Many parents have questions about COVID-19 vaccines for young children, and we want to encourage them to ask questions and seek information,” Dr. Janet Betancourt, senior vice president of social impact for Sesame Workshop, said in a statement. “With the help of Elmo and his father Louie, we want to model real conversations, encourage parent questions, and help children know what to expect.”

PSA This is not the first time Elmo and his father have appeared in messages regarding the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. In 2020, Lowe reminded parents to take time for themselves during quarantine. It also appeared at PSA last May about the vaccine in which Lowe got his own.
