Deborah James, who amassed over a million followers on her Instagram profile Bowel Babe, has sadly passed away.

The 40-year-old was diagnosed with bowel cancer five years ago and her story has been followed by thousands online.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mrs. Deborah James. The amazing wife, daughter, sister, mummy,” her family wrote in a devastating Instagram post on Tuesday (June 28).

They continued, “Deborah passed away peacefully today, surrounded by her family,” before calling her an “inspiration” who “impacted the lives of so many people.”

Cancer activist, podcaster and columnist was honored last month after the launch of a Just Giving page called the Bowelbabe Fund which raised nearly £7m for cancer research in the UK.

Where to buy Deborah James rose

In May, a new variety of white roses was introduced in the Chelsea Flower boot named after Deborah.

Brought to you by World of Roses and bred by the Harkness Rose Company, the white rose is called a floribunda and has a delicate pink center ‘ballet slipper’.

“I really cried when they asked me if they could name a rose after me,” the 40-year-old wrote on Instagram. Roses are my favorite flowers and I hope they light up everyone’s smile!

She also elaborated a bit about the rose, saying that it “repeats blooming from early June to the first frost” and has “glossy dark green leaves” and is “suitable for beds, borders, or large patio containers.”

The Dame Deborah James Rose, which is easy to grow and does well in all gardens, sells for £16.99 and £2.50 of each sale goes to the Bowelbabe Cancer Research UK Trust.

Five weeks before her death, the Instagram star announced that she was working on a clothing line with InTheStyle.

Bowelbabe fund raises nearly £7 million

After being told her journey with cancer was coming to an end, Deborah set up a Just Giving baby girl called the Bowelbabe Fund to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

As of June 29, the fund has raised £6.8 million and the 40-year-old has been honored with melancholy After launching a fundraising campaign.

“I always knew there was one thing I wanted to do before I died. I’ve always worked over the years to raise awareness and money for the charities closest to me,” she wrote on Instagram.
