Sherwood praises Keith ‘Froggy’ Frogson

At the end of another tense and captivating episode, Sherwood took a moment to pay homage to an influencer before the credits started rolling out.

On the final title card, the tribute states:

“In Memory of Keith “Froggy” Frogson’s Love – July 5, 1942 to July 19, 2004.”

Keith Frogson was one of two people murdered in July 2004, and the case was an inspiration to Sherwood writer James Graham.

Frogson was a former miner who lived in Annesley Woodhouse in Nottinghamshire until he was murdered at the age of 62.

On July 19, 2004, Keith was found dead on his doorstep after being attacked with a crossbow and a samurai sword.

Known to his friends by the nickname “Froggy,” Keith was heavily involved in the 1984 miners’ strike, and many initially suspected this played a role in his death. However, police investigations revealed that this is not true as the killer’s motive has nothing to do with mining history.

In the series, Gary Jackson’s character, Alon Armstrong, is loosely based on the real Keith Frogson.

Who killed Keith Frogson?

Keith Frogson is killed by Robert Boyer, another former miner and Keith’s neighbor.

Robert, who was 42 in 2004, stalked Keith for several weeks to track his movements and pick the perfect moment to strike.

On the evening of July 19, Boyer followed Keith home from the local tavern before shooting him with a crossbow and striking him several times with a samurai sword.

After the attack, Boyer hid in the woods near Annesley Woodhouse, and appeared two weeks later when he tried to set fire to the Frogson family home.

The hunt for Robert Boyr, and another killer who was on the run in the same forest, has become one of the largest police manhunts in history with over 450 police officers, 30 trained dogs and helicopters with thermal detection technology crafted from across the UK at a cost of £1.5 million.

On August 15, after a search that lasted almost a month, the police were finally able to track down Boyer to a shelter built deep in the woods.

Despite initial assumptions blaming the killing on the splits caused by the miners’ strikes, it emerged that Robert Bower was mentally ill and believed that Keith Frogson was abroad to drive him and plot the destruction of his home.

Boyer pleaded guilty to manslaughter and, due to his mental health, was given an indefinite hospital order instead of being sent to prison.

As of 2022, Robert Boyer will be about 60 years old and still under medical supervision, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Who was killed too?

The second murder victim who inspired the Sherwood story was Chanel Taylor.

A 23-year-old hairstylist from the nearby village of Hothwaite, Chanel was murdered just seven weeks after she married partner Lee Taylor.

Despite walking down the aisle a few weeks ago, Chanel was murdered by her 55-year-old father, Terry Rodgers.

Terry It said He had a history of abuse towards his wife and children, which culminated in the shooting of his daughter in her home, whose body was found by her husband Lee on July 30.

After the murder, Terry hid in the same woods as Robert Boyer outside Annesley Woodhouse until he was captured several weeks later.

Rodgers was due to stand trial for the murder in March 2006, but had died a month earlier, at age 57, after going on a hunger strike.

In the Sherwood series, Joanne Froggatt’s character, Sarah Vincent, is based on Chanel Taylor.
