It looks like Elite Wrestling’s Santana sustained an injury during tonight’s main match. Compete in the main event in a Blood & Guts match AEW DynamiteSantana hit Daniel Garcia of the Jericho Appreciation Society with Oranage, but he fell embarrassingly On his wrist and knee. Santana’s leg twisted immediately after the maneuver was executed, and he was postponed for the remainder of the match. The former inner circle member was coming out of the ring, stretched between the cage and the ropes, communicating with the judges outside the squared circle.
The match would eventually conclude with Claudio Castagnioli presenting Matt Maynard atop a roofed steel cage, seconds before Eddie Kingston tapped into Chris Jericho. Before the conclusion of the Blood & Guts match, Santana was taken out of the cage and helped up the slope. Five of the six winning contenders, Castagnoli, Kingston, Jon Moxley, Wheeler Utah and Ortiz, will celebrate victory on top of the cage while Santana remains off screen.
Santana has been with All Elite Wrestling since August 2019. He made his debut with the company at Aew all out 2019, Lucha Brothers and Young Bucks attacked with his partner, Ortiz. Roughly a month after their introductions in AEW, Santana and Ortiz were teaming up with Jericho in the main event for the inaugural episode of AEW Dynamite He will go on to form the inner circle with Jericho, Sami Guevara and Jake Hager.
The inner circle would collapse this past March, with Jericho and Hagar reversing Santana and Ortiz following the latter’s claim with Jericho’s rival, Eddie Kingston. Santana, Ortiz and Kingston previously teamed up for Impact Wrestling as a new iteration of LAX.
While Santana has yet to win a gold medal in the AEW Championship, he has a four-time Impact Wrestling Tag Team Championship and three AEW Dynamite Awards in 2021. He also holds a gold medal in Combat Zone Wrestling, Jersey Championship Wrestling, and the House of Glory.
The details of Santana’s injury are still unknown, but it does add him to the unfortunately long list of disabled players in AEW. Top stars CM Punk and Bryan Danielson are currently out for an undisclosed period of time, resulting in the two men missing out on Sunday. AEW x NJPW: The Forbidden Door.
