Early on, the Duffer brothers talk about how much they really love the – in Star Wars, there’s a scene with the Millennium Falcon where they’re in such a panic, they have to get out quickly and get into hyperdrive. Then Han Solo raises the motor, then the inertial motor starts to go out and starts to vibrate and whine. This was the reference they gave us. I was like, “Okay, let me start doing some research,” and I went looking for some old WWII planes, some biplanes, and P-51s. These old planes that had these kinds of old carburetor type engines, and diesel engines with these inertial starts, and I ended up collecting this really cool library of all of this stuff.

According to our master sound effects editor, Weird things Creators Matt and Ross Duffer wanted something similar to Yuri’s plane in Season 4, and admittedly Yuri wanted to take Joyce and Murray to the Soviet Union against their will not quite like Han Solo and Co. who is trying to escape the Empire, but the similarities are surely there, and Angelo Palazzo has turned to some old models of aircraft engines to find the right sound for it Weird things. He completed:
One of the hard things, believe it or not, with this scene was when we saw Yuri working on a screwdriver, then something happened in the engine, and then he hit it a few times, and then it broke out. When I first got this scene, and [sound supervisor Craig Henighan] And I was talking about him, he’s like, “Well, dude, you have to work somehow, because all he’s doing is hitting the airframe. It has to be funny. It has to look mechanical. It has to be believable. I put all my elements together.” I just started experimenting with faulty motors and grinding of gears and various malfunctioning motors, backfires and things like that.
Scenes with Yuri, Joyce, and Murray provided a great deal of humor in the volume. 1, especially compared to Eleven again with Dr. Brenner and Max narrowly escaped death Vecna With the help of Kate Bush’s song. The entire sequence involving Yuri’s unfortunate plane might not have worked without the various sound elements put together, and I would say the end product is worthy of Han Solo himself. Angelo Palazzo explained:
Then the whole piece came together. It was probably a combination of five different planes that started rattling and backlashing, and then smoke emanated from their side. This was actually a challenge just to start that thing, and then once it starts, it starts to hum. Then at that point it was about making the plane feel kind of unstable as it flew because it’s just some old kind of hangover.
Ultimately, the “disturbed” bunker does not take Joyce and Murray safely to Russia as Yuri prisoners after they manage to take over and crash the plane, resulting in A daring rescue operation for “Hooper” Instead of the two joining him as prisoners in a labor camp…or worse. They still have to flee Russia and go home, and it’s safe to say that the house they return to will be very different from the one they left, considering all that has happened since Joyce left California. more Chaos is definitely coming!
