The new Nintendo Switch console is likely to be teased by Nintendo

A new model of the Nintendo Switch may have been taken over by Nintendo in a somewhat unexpected way. For a long period of time, fans have been trying to estimate when Nintendo will release a more powerful version of the Switch. Rumors associated with a “Pro” model or outright Nintendo Switch 2 console have been circulating for the better part of last year, but Nintendo has yet to confirm that it’s working on anything like that. And while we may not get confirmation for a little longer, it certainly looks like the Japanese video game company might be creating something new behind the scenes.

As spotted by those on ResetNintendo’s spending on raw materials and supplies for fiscal year 2022 was noted to be significantly higher than usual. In short, Nintendo is spending more than twice as much on materials than it was just a few years ago in 2019. For reference, this was the same year it started manufacturing Switch Lite consoles. Knowing that Nintendo is now spending more money on this front, it’s likely indicating that it’s working on new Switch hardware it might release in the future.

Although this is a very strong theory at a baseline level, it’s worth emphasizing that there is no way to know for sure why Nintendo’s costs associated with materials are so high. Over the past year or so, the materials have definitely become more expensive than usual due to the constant shortages. However, that doesn’t explain how much Nintendo is now spending money on this front.

At this time, Nintendo has already made it clear that it will create a successor to the Switch at some point. However, judging by the company’s statements in the past, it was clear that we wouldn’t see this new console for a long time. Whether or not Nintendo will shock fans and announce its next console in the coming months or year remains to be seen, but it certainly looks like we should start expecting some big news down the road.

Do you think Nintendo is now working on a Switch 2 or Pro console model? And if not, what do you think is the explanation behind this spending? Let me know for yourself either in the comments or connect with me on Twitter at Trustworthy.
