While GSC Game World is fully focused on rendering STALKER 2 Heart of Chernobyl, one of the modders has begun work on a remaster of the series’ original entry: STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl.
Launched in 2007, STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl was a leading game at the time, thanks to its deep RPG elements and intense atmosphere. The game quickly reached fame after its release, and the developers released two additional entries in the following years.
However, it took GSC Game World over 10 years to finally announce an entirely new installment of the series, after the project was once canceled.
While the original version of the series is still available for sale on Steam, it definitely needs a reboot device to become a convenient option for gamers today. Although GSC Game World doesn’t appear to be working on a remastered version of previous STALKER games, a designer has already started a fan project to remake STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl.
As I mentioned DSOGThis remaster mode focuses on upgrading the original textures to 4K and, in some cases, using new textures for objects and surfaces. Moreover, the designer tried to improve the NPCs and use new models for some of them, however, the project has not yet been completed.
For now, you can check out some screenshots of the overhauled visuals from the mod for STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl.
Aside from the visual improvements, Andrey0007, the mod, is also working on adding new sound files for weapons, enemies, and dialogues to make the whole experience feel better and more modern.
At the moment, there is no specific release date for this improved mod. Regarding the fact that it is a one-man project, you should expect a long development period. Having said that, we really hope the designer can deliver this editor earlier than the official release date for the next installment in the STALKER series.
STALKER 2 Heart of Chernobyl was supposed to be released later this year, but due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the developers delayed the release of the game until 2023 because they are currently dealing with a massive war against Russia.
