When the weather gets warm, you can usually find me on bike tours outdoors. And you can usually find me wearing an Apple Watch to lock my Apple Watch loops and track my flight data.
One of the reasons why the Apple Watch is the best smartwatch is its extensive cycling features. Not only does the Apple Watch track cycling (and e-bike thanks to watchOS 8), but it also provides step-by-step cycling directions via Apple Maps and safety tools like fall detection.
These are some of the well-known Apple Watch cycling features. But did you know that there is a hidden setting that makes the Apple Watch better at tracking your travels? Even if you know how to use your Apple Watch, this secret setting will not be enabled by default.
You can actually enable auto-off to track your outdoor cycling workouts. I mentioned this feature briefly in my Apple Watch 7 Workout Test, where I tried a variety of exercise types to review the Apple Watch 7. The benefit is the precise timing of the miles I went, although I like the auto-pause feature especially when I’m riding off-road roads. The views are stunning, and I want to jump off my bike for a moment to take pictures.

Auto-pause is also available to run workouts, complementing the Apple Watch Workout app that runs upgrades in watchOS 9. So whether you’re someone who tracks bikes or works with your Apple Watch, you should enable auto-pause to get accurate time-to-distance readings.
Here’s how to enable auto-pause for Apple Watch workouts now.
How to enable Apple Watch Workouts to auto-pause
1. Open Settings on Apple Watch And the Move the mouse down for exercise. Click exercise.
2. Open Workout Settings And the Move the mouse down Until you see the button that reads Auto-Pause. Click on Auto-Pause.
3. Switch to auto off. then Make sure to run both running and cyclingunless you only want to enable auto-stop for one type of exercise and not the other.
Auto-off is now enabled on your Apple Watch. The next time you go for a run or run on a bike, your watch will pause to track the time and mileage when stopped. A small haptic notification will tell you when your workout is paused or resumed.
