Overwatch 2 players slam Blizzard over controversial character changes

Monitor 2 Players have been – and still are – criticizing Blizzard for some of the controversial character changes coming to light with the game’s new beta. The biggest talking point was what the recent patch for Symmetra did. With the latest update, the character has been reworked, significantly weakened in the process. Meanwhile, players are also unhappy with the recent changes in Mercy. Chatter about these controversial changes dominated the beta release, prompting Blizzard to comment on some of them.

is over Blizzard ForumsThe community manager gave a brief update to fans, referring to the aforementioned characters – and others – by name, before confirming that a mid-cycle patch would be released soon which will have changes in both Mercy and Moira, but not on Symmetra.

“We hope everyone is enjoying playing and keeping up Monitor 2 beta! We’ll have more in-depth updates next week, but there are a few things we wanted to address before that,” reads a comment from a Blizzard community manager. Symmetra’s Teleporter range has not been reduced as stated in the initial patch notes. The decision to keep its scope came very close to beta, but its Teleporter domain has remained the same as it was before beta at 30. This is now correctly reflected in the patch notes. We’ve seen some comments and thoughts on Mercy’s Guardian Angel changes, and that’s something we plan to discuss next week. There will be updates to this ability in the next mid-cycle patch. Finally, we wanted to be completely transparent about when we’ll be upgrading the beta. Due to some technical limitations, it will take a little longer before we can work on the planned changes across all platforms. However, there will be a mid-cycle correction including changes in Mercy and Moira. In the meantime, we’re continuing to seek community feedback, so please continue to share your thoughts with us.”

As you would expect, this update does not satisfy game fans in the forum. For example, players are not impressed with what is coming, but many believe that Blizzard is unaware of the negative feedback regarding Symmetra’s recent changes in the “tone-deaf” update.

“Symmetra’s negative reactions were much bigger than Mercy’s… so why don’t you take that too?!” This is not a placebo, the character looks like complete rubbish and is even worse than it was… her gun should be polished…fire Basic and alternative need a lot of attention, it’s not funny. It handles less dmg than champions support! “

It remains to be seen where Blizzard will go from here, but one thing is clear, and there is plenty of work left to do in terms of character balancing ahead of the game’s release early this year.
